The Gillette New Standard is part of Gillette's New Improved line. Yes, that is confusing. The New Improved razors all featured a newly designed head that was completely different from the Old Types that preceded them (although Old Types continued to be sold alongside New Improveds-- in fact, that is when the original head design began to be called the Old Type.) The distinctive diamond-patterned knurling is gorgeous, and this particular example, from 1928, is nice and shiny. It does have one minor barrel crack on the handle (see photos).
(Just to confuse things further, I'll point out that the New Deluxe is not a New Improved, it's a NEW.)
