For being a centenarian, this gold Pocket Edition set is looking good; the gold practically glows. Beginning in 1908, Gillette and the American Button Company worked together to produce these ornate razor sets with Old Type heads and handles and cases in several patterns. This one has the Basket-weave case and the Shell razor handle. It looks more to me like a Greek column than any kind of shell but that's what it's called. The razor, blade holder, and case are all plated in gold, and the serial number on the baseplate dates it to 1911. There's even a period-accurate 3-hole blade (unused in its wrapper) in the blade holder.
A caveat, however: though I purchased the razor, case, and blade holder together as a set, the Gillette logo on the inside cover of the case seems to indicate that the case is from several years later than 1911. For that reason, I have priced it significantly lower than I otherwise would have.
